| Controversies | ✈ | • She was accused of shielding her brother, G. N. Patil, in the 2005 Vishram Patil murder case. Wife of Vishram Patil said that Pratibha Patil had influenced the criminal investigation and G.N. Patil was involved in the murder of her husband as he got defeated by Vishram in the election for the President of the District Congress Committee of Jalgaon.;• In another controversy, it was found that she allegedly used government expenses to build a retirement mansion on a 260,000 square feet (24,000 m2) plot of military land in Pune. In fact, as per the rules, the former president could either take a residence in government accommodation at Delhi or go back to their house in their home state. This action of her was considered unprecedented.;• An RTI query filed by activist Subhash Chandra Agrawal revealed that she has packed over 150 gifts, which were received by her from foreign dignitaries and transported them to her hometown in Amravati, where it was supposed to display at a museum, Vidya Bharati Shaikshanik Mandal, which is run by her family. But according to the rule, those gifts are to be deposited with the official treasury of gifts, which maintains inventory. In action to query, Pranab Mukherjee's secretariat has taken steps wrote to Vidya Bharati Shaikshanik Mandal, asking it to return the gifts by June 2015.;• In a rumoured news, Pratibha Patil, impressed Indira Gandhi that much by her cooking skills, that she gifted her the license to open Chit-Funds across Amravati, where her Family was being allegedly involved in siphoning off lakhs of rupees of poor farmers in the name of social security. |

Childhood & Early Life
Pratibha Patil Born on December 19, 1934, in Nadgaon, a small village in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, India, Pratibha Patil is the daughter of Narayan Rao Patil and the sister of G. N. Patil.
Pratibha received her initial education at R. R. Vidyalaya, Jalgaon, and later enrolled at the Mooljee Jetha College, which was then under Pune University, to study Political Science and Economics.
After being awarded a master’s degree in the subjects, Pratibha attended Government Law College, Mumbai, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, and got a Bachelor of Law degree.
Pratibha was equally active in sports throughout her student life. Pratibha played table tennis, even winning several shields at numerous inter-collegiate tournaments.
Pratibha Devisingh Patil is an Indian politician who served as the 12th President of the Republic of India. Having served from 2007 to 2012, Pratibha was preceded by Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and succeeded by Pranab Mukherjee.
A Political Science and Economics postgraduate, Patil also chose to get a law degree and started practising at Jalgaon District Court in Maharashtra, her home state.
Her transition to the world of politics came about in the early 1960s. Pratibha joined the Indian National Congress (INC) party and subsequently won the Jalgaon Assembly seat in 1962.
Later, Pratibha was elected from Muktainagar constituency four consecutive times, during which Pratibha was a minister in the Congress government and held multiple portfolios.
Pratibha also served as a Member of Parliament both in Rajya and Lok Sabha. After taking a long break from politics, Patil returned and was appointed the 24th Governor of Rajasthan.
Pratibha was the first woman to be picked for that office and the first woman President of India as well.
Pratibha tenure as the latter was marked by several controversies, but it also saw her being more active than many of her predecessors.
Pratibha was instrumental in improving women’s rights in the country and in solving the agrarian crisis. Since her retirement, Pratibha has been primarily busy with her charity works.
