Khurrana won the alternate season of reality TV show MTV Roadies in 2004 and ventured into an anchoring career. He made his film debut in 2012 with the romantic comedy Vicky Donor contraryco-debutante Yami Gautam, in which his performance as a sperm patron earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Following a brief reversal, he starred in the commercially and critically successful Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), and went on to establish himself with consecutive box office hits Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), Badhaai Ho (2018), Conjure Girl (2019), Bala (2019), Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020) and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021), the whodunit suspenser Andhadhun (2018), and the crime drama Composition 15 (2019).

Khurrana's performances as a eyeless pianist in Andhadhun and an honest bobby in Composition 15 won him two successive Filmfare Critics Award for Stylish Actor, and he also won the National Film Award for Stylish Actor for the former.

Khurrana was born on 14 September 1984 in Chandigarh to Poonam andP. Khurrana, . as Nishant Khurrana. His parents changed his name to Ayushmann Khurrana when he was 3 times old. He was a part of Guru Nanak Khalsa College. He studied atSt. John's High School, Chandigarh and DAV College, Chandigarh. (12) He majored in English literature and has a master's degree in Mass Communication from the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University. He did serious theatre for five times. During his council days he has done several plays in Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. He was also the launching member of DAV College's"Aaghaaz"and"Manchtantra", which are active theatre groups in Chandigarh. (13) He conceived and acted in road plays and won prizes in public council carnivals similar as Mood Indigo (IIT Bombay), OASIS (Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani) andSt. Bedes Shimla.

He also won a Bravery Actor award for playing Ashwatthama in Dharamvir Bharati's Andha Yug.
